The Chillicothe Hornets Girls' golf team (7-0) competed in sectional play at Heritage Hills golf course in Moberly. The Hornets won with a score of 392, beating Kirksville's score of 403. The 2018 Hornets become the fifteenth Chillicothe Girls golf team to qualify for state competition and the first since 2005. Hornet sophomore Hallie Jones shot a score of 93, the third best score on the day. Hallie returns to state competition for her second year on her quest to be the fifth lady hornet golfer to qualify all four years of high school. Hallie parred holes seven, eleven, twelve, fifteen, and seventeen. Seniors Maddie Lamp and Hannah Haakonstad each shot a 102, tying for 17th place. Hannah parred hole number four and Maddie parred hole number fourteen and birdied hole number eight (her first birdie in high school competition). Senior Riley Brobst shot a 95, parring holes two, six, seven, twelve, and fourteen. Riley placed seventh in the 52 player competition. Sophomore Gabby Hapes shot a 107, 27th place, including par on hole number five. The Hornets compete in state competion at Mozingo Golf Course in Maryville on Monday and Tuesday, October 15th and 16th.
Samantha Cornelius of Penney High School was the sectional medalist with a score of 77 and Kirksville's Abby Boyer placed second with a score of 85.
