Big Class: 1.
Smithville (7-0)The Warriors’ dream season continued with a 42-6 home win over Maryville in week 7 to stay perfect. They’ll have their second straight huge MEC game in a row as they host Chillicothe this week in a game that would clinch Smithville at least a share of the title if they win. In fact, it’s likely the Warriors win the conference outright in their MEC swan song if they defeat the Hornets as we don’t see Smithville losing to Cameron in week 9.
2. Lafayette (6-1)
Lafayette took care of business against Cameron with a 42-6 win to improve to 6-1, its only blemish a loss to Smithville.
The Fighting Irish host Bishop LeBlond in week 8 to close out the home portion of their schedule before finishing the regular season at Maryville in week 9 in what could be a very interesting game.
3. Chillicothe (6-1)
The Hornets responded nicely from their loss to Lafayette in week 6 with a 48-34 win over a Savannah team that is better than its 2-5 record indicates.
Chillicothe gets a chance to stay in the MEC title race with a win at Smithville this week, but that is easier said than done.
4. Maryville (5-2)
It’s been a long time since the Spoofhounds lost two MEC games (or two games in the regular season). But that’s the case following their 42-6 loss at Smithville in week 7.
Maryville will look to rebound this week with a home game against Savannah before hosting Lafayette to close out the year.
5. St. Joseph Central (2-5)
Central fell to Liberty North, 35-17, in week 7 and hosts Raytown for its final home game of the season Friday before closing out the regular season at North Kansas City.
Small Class:
1. East Buchanan (6-1)
Now comes the interesting part of the schedule for the ‘Dawgs.
After taking care of North Platte 52-15 in week 7 to improve to 6-1, East Buchanan ends the season with Lathrop and Hamilton.
This week, it’s Lathrop coming to Gower in what is the small-class Uclick TV area game of the week.
The Mules are also 6-1 following a win over Plattsburg.
If East Buch wins, it eliminates Lathrop from KCI title contention and gives itself a chance to win the title outright the following week at Hamilton.
Get to Gower this Friday if you’re a football fan just looking to attend a game.
2. Hamilton (6-1)
We see you there, Hornets.
After a 49-21 rout of Lawson, how could anyone not?
Hamilton produced a very impressive win when it pummeled the Cardinals to improve to 6-1 and put itself right back in the KCI title talk.
The Hornets should take care of North Platte this week, then will have a shot at a conference title in week 9 with they host East Buch.
3. Lathrop (6-1)
Following an easy 51-21 win over rival Plattsburg in week 7 to move to 6-1, the Mules control their own KCI fate.
Defeat East Buchanan this week and Mid-Buchanan in week 9, and Lathrop will likely be co-conference champs.
Lose either game, and it will have no share of the conference title.
This week’s game at Gower is the place to be.
4. Marceline (7-0)
Marceline blasted Salisbury 58-6 in week 7 to stay perfect on the year.
Now comes the fun.
The Tigers have their biggest matchup of the season when they travel to Huntsville this week for a game against 6-1 Westran with Lewis and Clark Conference title implications on the line.
5. Lawson (3-4)
Lawson ended its three-week run against Lathrop, East Buchanan and Hamilton 1-2 following its 49-21 loss to Hamilton in week 7.
The Cardinals should close out the regular season with wins against Mid-Buchanan and West Platte to enter the toughest district in Class 2, District 7, with a record of 5-4.
8-man
1. Worth County (with Northeast Nodaway) (7-0)
2. Stanberry (7-0)
3. Mound City (with Craig) (7-0)
4. Rock Port (7-0)
5. Tarkio (with Fairfax) (5-2)
5. Norborne/Hardin-Central (5-1)
