JEFFERSON CITY -- The Jefferson City Renegades (0-2), lost to the Clarinda A's (1-1) despite a 13-run outing in their home opener.
The game was suspended during the top of the sixth on Saturday after a prolonged lightning attack in the surrounding area. The Renegades lead was 11-8 when the game was suspended.
A once 11-4 lead was erased completely when Noah Menchaca hit his seventh inning sac-fly. The Renegades retook the lead with two runs in the bottom of eighth, but Nathaniel Bentura had other ideas when he sent Shane Fontenot's offspeed pitch over the left-centerfield fence for a go-ahead 3-run bomb. The Renegades failed to score in the bottom of the ninth and lost the game 15-13.
The teams finished with a combined 31 hits. Clarinda second baseman Jacob Flores also hit a homerun to earn the the A's their first win in their 65th campaign.
