Hudson Homers Twice as Renegades Mercy-Rule Griffons

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - As is customary in the MINK League, all league opponents play each other six times throughout the course of the regular season. With around twenty days left of the MINK season, the Renegades (19-15, 15-15) welcomed the Nevada Griffons for the first time this year to Ernie Vivion Field.

The Griffons wore out their welcome in a hurry. Leadoff man Connor DuPuy tripled on the very first pitch of the game, immediately putting pressure on Renegades starter Kaden Helsel.

But a two out single from Domonique Hernandez drove across the game’s first run. Renegades leadoff hitter Logan Hudson one-upped Nevada’s effort, homering to begin the bottom of the first. The home run was one of two Hudson hit in the game, all while battling a sinus bug.

After exchanging runs in the first, Nevada enjoyed one last lead of the night on a DuPuy homer before the Renegades' offensive tsunami hit. Quincy Jones hit a three-run homer, his first of the year, giving Jeff City the lead for good. The Renegades never looked back, as Helsel delivered three scoreless frames following the DuPuy long ball. Helsel went six strong, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out six but walking four. Meanwhile, the Renegades offense continued to pour it on Nevada, adding a run on a solo blast by Austin Blazevic, and another on an RBI double from Jady Reese.

Up by nine in the bottom of the eighth, Tyler Bracht sent the Jefferson City faithful home early, singling in Blazevic to give the Renegades the run they needed to put the Griffons away ahead of schedule.
