Renegades Tame Mustangs in Walk-Off Win

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Renegades (18-14, 14-14) have been on the losing side of a couple of heart breakers thus far to the Mustangs (17-16, 14-15), and after the Mustangs put up a three spot to take back the lead in the top of the eighth - the home faithful feared they were headed down the same road. But as the Renegades have done all season long, they never relented. The first three hitters in the bottom of the ninth reached base safely, setting the stage for the Renegades best hitter statistically this season – Logan Hudson.

Down just a run at this point in the final frame, Hudson sealed the deal for the Renegades with two outs no less, sending the home crowd home happy.

Jeff City received a great start on the mound from Michael McElmeel - probably his best start of the season. He gave the Renegades seven strong, allowing just a single run across four hits, two walks, and a hit batter, while striking out five.

The Mustangs got on the board first, a tally that wasn’t answered until the sixth – on a sacrifice fly by Logan Hudson, who book-ended the scoring for the home team. The Renegades were able to get another on an RBI double in the seventh by Austin Blazevic, but the bullpen was unable to hold the lead from the tenacious Mustangs.

St. Joe responded for three runs in the eighth, all of which required minimal effort from the Mustangs lineup. After a leadoff single by Mason Janvrin, back-to-back walks and then a hit batter gave the Mustangs their first run since the fourth. The walks then came around to score on a passed ball and wild pitch, respectively. The Renegades were able to quell the damage however as Tommy Wahl came in and retired three in a row, leaving what would later become a huge run for the Mustangs 90 feet away from scoring.

McElmeel and Hudson were awarded player of the game honors after their contributions to the Renegades walk-off win.
