SEDALIA, Mo. - It took just two batters for the Sedalia Bombers to wash the sour taste from Friday out of their mouth. That feeling left as soon as Ashanti Wheatley’s home run landed over
the centerfield fence at Liberty Park Stadium. However, it actually wasn’t so much the Bombers’ offense that hurt the Renegades, but rather the unforced errors on the mound.
When it was all said and done, the Renegades (6-4) walked ten batters and hit an additional six. That number far outweighed the eleven hits given up by the staff, as the Bombers (8-4) defeated Jefferson City for the third time this year, this time by a final of 12-7.
The Renegades actually led at two different points in the ball game, with a four-run third inning followed up by a two-run fourth. They were able to take advantage of two errors in the third, as Austin Blazevic drove home two on a double. Then in the fourth, after Christian Rodriguez reached base and subsequently stole second, he was driven in on a Justin McIntyre double – who also later scored.
It wasn’t until the later innings that the Bombers pulled away. Sedalia scratched across three in both the sixth and seventh innings. What made those runs tough to stomach was the fact that just one of the six base runners that eventually scored hit their way on base.
Although the win streak was snapped, the Renegades end their road trip 2-1, with the only loss coming tonight. They head home tomorrow to face a non-MINK League opponent in the Queen City Crush before an off day on Tuesday.
