Bats Go Quiet for Renegades as Mudcats Earn Double-Digit Win

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Trae Brownell took a no hitter into the seventh last night against the Renegades, as his Mudcats were able to take the first game of the series. Tonight was no different. Manager Caleb Bounds trotted out Tanner Marshall, who promptly shut down the Jefferson City Renegades (7-6) again, earning an 11-1 win.

Although Marshall didn’t carry a no hitter through a good portion of the game like his Chillicothe Mudcats (5-9) counterpart, he was effective in pounding the strike zone and working out of trouble – even working out of a bases loaded situation with nobody out in the fourth. The only run he did give up back in the second, when the Renegades were able to string together a pair of doubles in the inning.

The Renegades pitching staff struggled once more in the control department, issuing nine walks in total to Chillicothe hitters – seven of which came around to score. In addition, the Mudcats put the bat on the ball when it was pitched in the zone, striking out just three times as a team.

Jefferson City was held to just five hits in the contest, but had its chances, working eight walks at the plate in addition to a hit batter. They also missed centerfielder Ridge Rogers, who injured his right hand making a diving catch last night.

Renegades catcher Jady Reese had a solid defensive night behind the plate throwing out two Mudcats on the base paths.

The Renegades will look to right their wrongs against the top team in their division, welcoming in the Ozark Generals for a double header set to begin at 6:00 tomorrow.
